About This Training Course
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is essential for workplace designated first aiders, healthcare workers, fitness professionals, and anyone wishing to maintain active CPR competency.
What You Will Learn
- Recognise an emergency situation and assess the scene safely
- Effective adult and child chest compressions and rescue breathing (30:2 ratio)
- Safe and effective operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Manage regurgitation and airway obstructions
- Follow the DRSABCD Basic Life Support action plan
- Infant CPR techniques using two-finger compressions
- Manage unconscious casualties and recovery position placement
- Handover procedures to emergency response services

Course Delivery & Format
Conducted at community venues in Mount Beauty, Bright, Myrtleford or on-site at your workplace.
Completed at your own pace from your phone or computer prior to attending class.
Certificate Renewal Requirements
The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends updating CPR skills annually (every 12 months).
- Entry Requirements
- Participants must have the physical capacity to perform at least 2 continuous minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor.
- Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required as this is a nationally recognised training unit.
- Completion of online pre-learning module prior to attending the face-to-face practical session.
- Assessment Activities
Assessment is practical, supportive, and scenario-based to ensure true competence without unnecessary stress.
Performance Assessment: Continuous 2 minutes adult CPR on floor, 2 minutes infant CPR on firm surface, correct AED pad placement and prompt response.
Knowledge Assessment: Multiple choice and short answer online assessment covering ARC guidelines, DRSABCD chain of survival, and legal considerations.
